My Approach
Based in the San Francisco Bay Area, Matthew Michaels is an interior designer who seamlessly blends progressive modernism with classical architectural tradition. Born in Kaliningrad and raised in San Jose’s historic Willow Glen, Michaels brings a global perspective and a disciplined eye to spatial design.
His practice is informed by a foundational background in fashion and luxury apparel merchandising. Michaels approaches interior spaces through the technical lens of textile behavior, tailoring, and structural form—expertly balancing material, light, color, and movement.
Viewing spaces as living canvases rather than utilitarian structures, his methodology centers on a rigorous edit. He preserves sentimental artifacts of intrinsic value while systematically eliminating visual noise. By marrying historical reverence with contemporary clarity, redefined modern luxury to create enduring, timeless environments.
